LIVE!! - la bruha la negra@seco bar/ shibuya , japan - 10/25/07

finally. something live and fresh. for archives sake, here is a complete performance of LA BRUHA LA NEGRA in shibuya, japan from a place called the seco bar. they decided by the intervention of a trusted associate to take one of their usually mind- numbing dance nights and give it over to a more eclectic night. i fear saying "experimental" cause it was never their intention. for the first time in my career at that point, i actually played to a room of people. about over 30 if i remember. of course they weren't there to see me. regardless they did and kindly suffered through it. i was thrilled. the ceiling of this underground place was high and had a lot of metal venting which thanks to me rattled incredibly violently. don't think you can pick it up in the video but it's worth a try. i'm sure some were scared. by the way, the VJ work in the back of me is NOT mine. the colors i kinda liked but the fuckin drawing was by an idiot. she's also a highly requested popular idiot in the tokyo VJ scene so take that as it is.

i thought i would go take a look back in the past year since i've done a fair amount of work this year to unfortunately no fanfare. here are the CD covers for LA BRUHA LA NEGRA

2009's finale!!! --- Finally a bit of rest

for those not in the know, japan basically shuts down at the end of the year and just so that everyone can embrace and feel joyous of that fact, the days leading up to the end of the month and year are pure hell for most people with deadlines or myself numerous "obligations" to fulfill. sorry for no more detail. from the 29th though we can now rest our heads, relax and for the music minded, get down to a lot of good fucking concerts and dance nights. some i will attend and others just wish for. but here for tonight is the BLACKSMOKER crew giving up a big finale at CLUB ASIA in shibuya for the regular event EL NINO. it stands to be a killer. lookin forward to it though not lookin forward to comin home at the crack of dawn smelling like fuckin smoke.  

anyway other lovely tidbits are HAINO KEIJI's regular all night showdown at SHOWBOAT in koenji. afterwards for 2010. we go into spaceflight with none-other than JEFF MILLS......whoa!!

DONYALE LUNA - a troubled sprite

yes, i'm back and of course it has been too long but i'm gonna make up for it with a lot of good shit. so for the time being here are some of my preoccupations. glancing through a DAZED AND CONFUSED from a month or 2 ago, i saw some lovely pictures of a black woman. the pictures so dazzling i had to do more research on this woman. 

so now I know that she was an avant garde heroine as well as a body discarded to the 70's never to mature. though her politics are somewhat understandable in someways and offensive to black people in other ways, it was a the way then. except that for her, the idea of being multiracial and not black as it was defined then meant having to decide black or not. 

Unfair. 

especially now but that was a different time and to be black was a clear curse or show of strength. some would say it is the same now but frankly it isn't. and that goes beyond just obama. 

having looked at as many pictures as I can, i can somewhat bet that she felt radical and in the fashion world that meant being around almost solely white americans and white europeans. that was the world then. she would be shaken now though. of course many of the major publications are still focused on white models,etc. still how long can that last. just the other night, mrs obama chose an indian american designer. as the numbers different from the "norm" grow in influence so the old mantle will fall. 

regardless of all that talk, it should be known that donyale was a soldier and she fought hard by creating.....she was one of the many black radicals of that time. though she is gone, the photos can still show us now what it also meant then.
